Bring it on: Broiling Sun, Sandy Soil, Low Rain, Salty Air
The Yucca is one tough customer. Its iconic shape features sword-like leaves with spiney edges that could cut you if you handle them without wearing gloves.
Native to the southwestern US, the slow-growing Yucca differs from the Agave in that it has thinner leaves and may form a trunk. (And, it’s not used to make tequila!) The white Yucca flowers are huge, and appear on mature plants during warmer months. The Yucca will send up new trunks in clump formation. Some may reach away from the center. If so, you might consider removing these to keep the plant at its preferred shape. Full sun is perfect for this plant, though they can handle partial shade. Make sure to plant in soil that drains well.Category: House Plants / Indoor / Interior
