Description
Caring for your Variegated Aralia Balfour
Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate partial shade. Avoid direct sunlight, which may scorch the variegated leaves.
Water:
Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry, and reduce watering in cooler months.
Soil:
A well-draining, rich potting mix works best—combine regular potting soil with perlite or sand to enhance aeration.
Temperature:
Thrives in warm conditions between 65°F–85°F (18°C–29°C). Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 60°F (15°C).
Humidity:
Enjoys moderate to high humidity. Mist occasionally or use a humidifier in dry environments.
Fertilizer:
Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength. Reduce feeding during fall and winter.
Repotting:
Repot every 2–3 years or when the plant becomes root-bound. Choose a pot one size larger with proper drainage holes.
Propagation:
Can be propagated by stem cuttings. Take 4–6 inch cuttings, remove lower leaves, and root in moist soil or water until established.
Toxicity:
Considered mildly toxic if ingested. Keep away from pets and small children.
