Description
The Serenoa Repens or Saw Palmetto as it’s also known is best in zones from 8 – 10 and is also native to areas of the United States. The Serenoa repens ‘Cinerea’ is the most popular silver version of it’s other green counterpart. It does best in subtropical areas, though it’s actually extremely resilient when it comes to sun. It’s good for full sun to full shade and grows great even with very little water.
This tree has a very unique style of palm that grows wide and beautiful. Growing primarily in clumps and generally in sandy areas or as an undergrowth, this tree is definitely able to defend itself. Make sure you’re careful around it as it does have sharp spines that will break through the skin if you aren’t very careful.
The leaves of the plant are unique, showing a blue-green color when grown inland but an almost silvery-white when grown in coastal areas. This means that you get a very unique look depending on where you grow it.
