THIS GRACEFUL SHRUB BREWS UP COMPLIMENTS FROM PASSERS-BY
Though the Wild Coffee Plant (or Psychotria Nervosa…don’t you just love that name?) has berries, its beans won’t reward you with a great-tasting cup o’ joe. Its berries appear in summer after small white spring flowers (a favorite of birds and bees) ripen to red. The beans contain no caffeine, but can be roasted and consumed for a coffee-like beverage. But, the beans are not why Wild Coffee is so popular. Its glossy deep green leaves are marked with deep grooves, giving great texture to your landscaping. Many gardeners love to use Wild Coffee as a shade or privacy hedge.
Tolerant to shade, but partial to more sun, this tropical shrub can grow up to 6 feet tall. It requires average water and grows easily, but is definitely cold sensitive.
