Scientific Name: Monstera deliciosa ‘Thai Constellation’

Common Names: Thai Con Monstera, Variegated Monstera

Overview: Monstera Thai Con is a highly sought-after and rare variegated tropical plant, known for its stunning creamy-white marbled patterns on deep-green, glossy leaves. This gorgeous plant, a cultivar of Monstera deliciosa, originates from Thailand and is prized among collectors for its unique variegation and impressive size.

The Thai Constellation is an epiphytic plant, meaning it grows on other plants or structures, and prefers a well-draining soil mix and indirect sunlight for optimal growth. Its leaves are large and exhibit characteristic fenestrations or holes, which lend the plant an exotic, otherworldly appearance. The variegation is caused by a genetic mutation that produces random patterns, making each plant one-of-a-kind.

Caring for your Monstera Thai Con

In addition to its aesthetic appeal, Monstera Thai Constellation is also a resilient houseplant, able to adapt to various conditions. Its low maintenance requirements, coupled with its striking appearance, make it a popular choice for both experienced plant enthusiasts and beginners alike. They’re hard to find and grow much slower than their green cousins. Monstera Thai Constellations like very bright indirect light, but not direct sunlight, which will burn the leaves.

Light Requirements

Monstera Thai Constellation thrives in bright, indirect sunlight. Too much direct sun can scorch the leaves, while too little light will result in slower growth and a lack of variegation. To provide the ideal lighting conditions, place your plant near an east or west-facing window, where it will receive a few hours of gentle morning or evening sunlight. Alternatively, you can use a sheer curtain to filter the sunlight or place your plant a few feet away from a south-facing window.

Watering

Like most tropical plants, Monstera Thai Constellation prefers consistently moist but not waterlogged soil. To achieve the right balance, water the plant when the top 1-2 inches of soil have dried out. Overwatering can lead to root rot, while underwatering may cause the leaves to droop or yellow. To avoid overwatering, use a well-draining soil mix and ensure that the pot has drainage holes at the bottom.

Soil and Potting

A well-draining soil mix is essential for Monstera Thai Constellation’s health. A good blend consists of equal parts peat moss, perlite, and orchid bark. This mix will provide the necessary aeration and drainage, while also retaining enough moisture to support healthy root development. When potting your Monstera, choose a container with drainage holes and a tray to catch excess water. As your plant grows, you may need to repot it every 1-2 years to provide it with more space and fresh nutrients.

Humidity and Temperature

Monstera Thai Constellation thrives in a humid environment, as it mimics its natural habitat in tropical rainforests. Aim for a humidity level of around 60-70%. You can maintain high humidity by placing a humidifier nearby, misting the leaves with water, or placing the plant on a tray filled with water and pebbles. Make sure the pot is sitting on the pebbles, not in the water, to avoid root rot.

Temperature-wise, Monstera Thai Constellation prefers a range of 65-85°F (18-30°C). Keep your plant away from drafts, air conditioning vents, or heaters, as sudden temperature fluctuations can cause stress.

Fertilizing

Monstera Thai Constellation is not a heavy feeder, but it does benefit from regular fertilization during the growing season (spring and summer). Use a balanced liquid fertilizer, diluted to half the recommended strength, and apply it every 4-6 weeks. In the fall and winter, reduce fertilization to once every 2-3 months. Over-fertilization can lead to a buildup of salts in the soil and may cause leaf burn or other health issues.

Pruning and Training

Regular pruning and training are essential to maintain the desired shape and size of your Monstera Thai Constellation. Prune any yellowing or damaged leaves and trim back leggy growth to encourage bushiness. You can also train your Monstera to climb a support, such as a moss pole, by tying the aerial roots to the structure with soft twine or plastic clips. This will not only give your plant a more natural appearance but also help it grow larger, healthier leaves.

Plant is beautiful I think you could’ve given me notice a little differently when it was coming but otherwise I would overdo it again and I’m waiting for you to do a bigger plant from the same name

  2. Jason (verified owner)

I wasn’t sure I wanted a variegated anything, but this was too good of a deal to pass up. The monstera is GORGEOUS in person. It was packed very well and was easy to unpack. The new leaf was ripped during transit, but there is already another one taking its place. I’ve seen examples of variegated monsteras in person at plant stores, but I truly believe mine from Plantvine is the prettiest example I’ve ever seen. Thank you!

Love this guy. It has a few brown spots but it’s still beautiful

Arrived big and healthy, saving up for my next one.
