Common Names: Cassine Holly

Description

The Holly Berries Have That Christmas Appeal

The Dahoon Holly is usually seen at a height of 20 to 30 ft., with an 8 to 12 ft. spread. Its shiny dark evergreen leaves are accented by greenish-white flowers.

The Dahoon thrives in moist to wet locations, which is why you’ll often see it growing in wetland thickets. It’s a moderate to slow grower, and prefers full sun to light shade. To ensure your neighborhood birds will be treated to those brilliant red berries in fall and winter, (and you get some early holiday décor), plant both a male and a female tree. (The female trees have berries, but need a male pollenizer within range.)

Why others chose the Dahoon Holly

Leaves of this variety of Ilex Cassine Dahoon are more narrow; does not look like a typical evergreen holly
