The Fiddle Leaf Fig or Ficus Lyrata is a popular addition to subtropical and tropical gardens as an ornamental bush or tree. Its leathery leaves are thick and shiny. As the Fiddle Leaf grows, its lower leaves fall off, revealing a rough brown cracked-looking trunk. In its native western Africa, it uses other trees as a host before it starts rooting itself into the ground. In tropical rainforests, the Fiddle Leaf can grow to nearly 50 ft. But, fear not, with proper maintenance, you’ll find this a delightful addition – indoors or out.
When planting outdoors, make sure to place it in a spacious area with bright light, though not direct sunlight (which may burn its leaves). It prefers soil that can be kept evenly moist, but not soggy. If the weather is humid, it does not require much watering.
