Description

This Tropical Rainforest Tree Is a Lush Addition to Interiors

With its slender gray trunk topped by a profusion of glossy green leaves, the Weeping Fig remains an incredibly popular choice. Native to Asia and Australia, Ficus Benjamina puts out small cream or yellow flowers which give way to orange spherical figs.

In an indoor container, the plant is slow growing but can reach a height of 12 feet. It likes a warm, humid, brightly lit spot away from direct sunlight. It also prefers to be kept in one position, and may show stress if moved around the house. Experts agree the #1 cause of leaf drop is overwatering. A good rule of thumb is to keep the soil moist, but never wet. Here’s another plus: the Weeping Fig is a great air quality improver.

Outdoors (zones 10 and 11), the plant can turn into a monster of a tree (up to 100 feet tall and 50 feet wide). Be sure to prune regularly to the height you desire. If choosing to plant outdoors, also remember to plant well away from your home. Its roots spread as fast as the tree grows tall, posing a threat to foundations. A minimum of 30 feet away from the house is recommended.

Both indoors and out, weeping fig sap can cause skin and eye irritation, and is toxic if ingested. Keep plants away from children and animals.

  2. Linda (verified owner)

I’m sad, i got it on Thursday and this ficus is really in danger of dying right now (it’s Tuesday) leaves are curling and falling off in droves (more than just plant moving trauma)

  3. Michael H. (verified owner)

    Perfect on every level

  4. Joanna (verified owner)

  5. Charu R. (verified owner)

It came to me with a whole lot of leaves fallen down and the leaves continue to fall.. but its still only been a week since it came and it might still be recovering from stress so hoping it spruces back soon

  6. Renee Coleman (verified owner)

My ficus tree arrived fast and in great condition. Very healthy and much bigger and taller than I thought. It looks great in my room. The customer service at plantvine is exceptional. I highly recommend this nursery and this tree. Don’t hesitate, you will not be disappointed!

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the plants that were mailed. The best I’ve ever felt with. I will be ordering from them again.

  17. Cynthia G. (verified owner)

I’m a plant person from way back so I was reluctant to order one via the mail (of all things!), but after seeing the great reviews, I gave it a shot. Just got it last week, and it was packaged perfectly (amazing) and nary a leaf has dropped which is almost unheard of with a ficus. Will wait to repot and see what happens but so far, so great!

  18. Patrick (verified owner)

Beautiful plant that arrived in perfect condition

  19. Glenda Arthurs (verified owner)

  23. Stephanie (verified owner)

The tree is beautiful. It’s has some yellow leaves but I believe that’s from traveling. It was packaged well and once shipped arrived quickly. We are pleased with our purchase and will be ordering from Plantvine again in the future.

  25. Amy (verified owner)

It arrived beautifully, with new growth and good packaging to keep it safe. A couple of fallen leaves, but not beyond what’s to be expected. It took a few weeks because of winter storms – but I appreciated PlantVines’ consideration of the health and safety of the plant in transit.

  26. Anonymous (verified owner)

Amazing customer support, communications, price, and of course the tree! Arrived in perfect condition and is now thriving in its new home!

  27. Amber R. (verified owner)

The ordering and shipping process was excellent and easy. My ficus tree has adjusted well to its new home and is a beautiful addition.

  28. Brendan C. (verified owner)

  29. Teresa Cowen (verified owner)

Plants are beautiful and the shipping was fast. Plants are A LOT smaller than expected though. With that said I will still definitely purchase from the company again and again.

  30. Jessica Burke (verified owner)

Are these genuinely the Wintergreen variety, meaning they can thrive in low light? I need to know that for sure before purchase.

Hi. What size pot do you recommend I plant the medium in?

Guest
user
1 year 5 months ago

The medium grower pots are about 6 inches so an 8 inch pot will give it room to grow.
