Bengal Figs, also known as Ficus benghalensis, have a rich history and cultural significance in South Asia. The tree has been mentioned in various ancient Indian texts and mythology, including the Mahabharata and the Bhagavad Gita. The Bengal Fig tree is also known for its impressive size, with some trees growing up to 100 feet tall and spreading up to 300 feet wide.
Caring for your Bengal Fig
Bengal Fig trees are hardy plants that can adapt to a range of different environments, making them a great choice for indoor or outdoor landscaping. With proper care, these trees can live for many years and become a stunning focal point in any garden or landscape.
Light
Bengal Figs prefer bright, indirect light. If grown indoors, place the tree near a bright window that gets plenty of light but is not exposed to direct sunlight.
Watering
The tree prefers consistently moist soil but should not be waterlogged. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out before watering it again.
Fertilizer
Fertilize the tree during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced fertilizer every two weeks.
