Overview: The Farfugium japonicum ‘Firefly’, also known as the Leopard Plant, is a remarkable and eye-catching perennial, ideal for adding a lush, tropical feel to any garden or indoor space. This particular cultivar is celebrated for its unique and vibrant foliage. Originating from Japan and the coastal cliffs of East Asia, ‘Firefly’ stands out with its large, glossy, and leathery leaves that boast a deep green color with whimsical yellow spots and splashes, resembling the night sky.

Growing up to 2 feet in both height and spread, this plant forms a tidy, clump-like structure, making it perfect for container gardens or as an understory plant in shaded garden areas. It thrives in partial to full shade and prefers consistently moist, well-draining soil. The ‘Firefly’ is relatively low-maintenance, requiring minimal care beyond regular watering and occasional feeding with a balanced fertilizer.
