Scientific Name: Chamaedorea cataractarum

Common Name: Cat Palm, Cataract Palm, Cascade Palm

Overview: Cat palms are attractive, low-growing palms native to southeastern Mexico and Central America. They are renowned for their lush, green foliage and adaptability to indoor environments, making them a popular choice for houseplants and tropical-themed landscapes. Also known as cascade palms or cataract palms, these plants thrive in partially shaded areas with well-draining, moist soil.

Typically growing to a height of 4 to 6 feet, cat palms feature slender, bamboo-like stems and graceful, arching fronds adorned with dark green, pinnate leaves. They can tolerate a range of indoor lighting conditions, from low to bright indirect light. Cat palms are relatively low-maintenance and resistant to most pests, though they may require occasional pruning to maintain their appealing appearance.
